The royal Mamluk mosque of the Citadel, its minarets sheathed in green-and-white faience.
Built by Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun and rebuilt in 1335, this was the private congregational mosque of the Citadel's rulers. Its two minarets, uniquely topped with bulbous finials clad in glazed faience tiles, reflect Persian and Central Asian influence rare in Cairo.
