A Mamluk mosque later dressed in cascades of blue Ottoman tile.
Founded in 1347 by the amir Aqsunqur, the mosque owes its popular name to the blue-and-green tiles that line its interior. These Iznik-style panels were added in the 1650s during an Ottoman-era restoration by Ibrahim Agha, giving the sober Mamluk hall its shimmering coat of color.
