The northern Gate of Conquests, its rounded stone towers guarding the head of Al-Muizz Street.
Built in 1087 by the Fatimid vizier and commander Badr al-Jamali, Bab al-Futuh is the great northern gate of the walled city. Its solid rounded towers and vaulted passages, shared with the adjoining Al-Hakim mosque, are masterworks of medieval military engineering brought to Egypt by Armenian architects.
