The desert funerary mosque of the sultan who brought Cyprus under Egyptian rule.
Built in 1432 in the Northern Cemetery, this mosque and khanqah honors al-Ashraf Barsbay, the Mamluk sultan whose fleet conquered Cyprus in 1426. Its finely carved stone dome and slender minaret stand among the elegant tomb-mosques that give the City of the Dead its skyline.
