6th of October Bridge

Named for 6 October 1973, the day Egyptian troops crossed the Suez Canal to open the October War.

The crossing of the canal and storming of the Bar-Lev Line became the defining national memory of modern Egypt. The vast bridge threading across the capital carries that date into daily life.
