Abbas al-Akkad Street

Named for Abbas al-Akkad, the self-taught journalist, poet and critic who shaped modern Arabic letters.

Al-Akkad wrote prolifically on literature, biography and Islamic thought across the early 20th century. The street named for him is now one of the liveliest retail strips in eastern Cairo.
