Street · Islamic Cairo, near Bab al-Khalq

Ahmed Maher Street

The street was renamed for Ahmed Maher Pasha, the prime minister shot dead in parliament in 1945, replacing its older name tied to the Bab al-Khalq district.

The street runs past the Museum of Islamic Art toward the tentmakers' bazaar. Renaming old streets for modern statesmen is a common layer over Cairo's medieval names.
