Al-Sayeda Aisha Square

The square is named for the shrine of Sayyida Aisha, a descendant of the Prophet through Imam Hussein, whose mosque stands beside it.

The square lies below the Citadel hill and long served as a threshold to Cairo from the south. Its name comes from the small mosque and tomb, not the Prophet's wife of the same name.
