Alfy Street

The street is named for Muhammad Bey al-Alfi, a powerful Mamluk bey of the late 18th century.

Al-Alfi resisted the French occupation and vied for power in Egypt's turbulent Mamluk twilight. Today the lane is known for its restaurants.
