Mar Girgis

The street is named for Mar Girgis, Saint George, whose round Greek Orthodox church rises over the old Roman fortress here.

This is the historic Christian quarter, clustered within the walls of the Roman fort of Babylon. The Hanging Church, the Coptic Museum and ancient churches all lie along it.
