Orabi Street

Named for Ahmed Orabi, the army colonel whose 1881-82 revolt challenged Khedival and European domination.

Orabi's slogan 'Egypt for the Egyptians' made him an early symbol of the independence movement, though his revolt ended in British occupation in 1882. Streets and a Cairo square bear his name.
