Port Said Street

The avenue is named after the port city of Port Said, and was laid over the filled-in bed of the medieval Khalig canal.

One of Cairo's longest streets, its dead-straight course traces exactly where the old canal once flowed. The renaming honoured the Suez Canal city rather than any local figure.
