Salah El-Din Square

The square is named for Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, the sultan who founded the Citadel above it in the 12th century.

The vast plaza is flanked by the Sultan Hassan and al-Rifa'i mosques and served historically as a parade ground. It sits directly beneath the walls Saladin began.
