Sayyida Zeinab Square

The square honours Sayyida Zeinab, granddaughter of the Prophet and sister of Hussein, whose shrine here gives the district its name.

Her mosque is one of the most beloved in Cairo, and her moulid is among the city's largest festivals. The name covers the mosque, the square and the surrounding quarter alike.
