Souq al-Kutub (Azbakeya)

The market is called Sur al-Azbakeya, 'the Azbakeya wall', because booksellers first spread their stock along the wall of the old Azbakeya garden.

For generations this was the place to find rare and secondhand books in Cairo. The Azbakeya garden itself was named for the 15th-century emir Azbak min Tutukh.
