Complex of Sultan Al-Ghuri

The last grand Mamluk statement in stone, straddling the medieval city's spine.

Built in 1503-05 by Qansuh al-Ghuri, among the last Mamluk sultans, the complex faces itself across Al-Muizz Street: a mosque-madrasa on one side and his mausoleum and khanqah on the other. Al-Ghuri fell in battle against the Ottomans in 1516 and was never laid to rest in the tomb he built.
