The founding monument of the Circassian Mamluks, all marble courts and gilded ceilings.
Completed in 1386 by al-Zahir Barquq, the first of the Circassian (Burji) Mamluk sultans, this complex on Bayn al-Qasrayn served as mosque, madrasa, and Sufi lodge. Its cruciform court, porphyry columns, and blue-and-gold painted ceiling make it one of the finest interiors on Al-Muizz Street.
