Built as a royal bathhouse and converted into a hotel around 1901, the Windsor on Alfy Street preserves the atmosphere of Edwardian Cairo down to its cage lift and paneled lounges. Its wood-lined Barrel Bar, a relic of the British occupation, has drawn writers and travelers, including Michael Palin, for over a century.
