The name means 'The Tentmakers', after the artisans who sew the colourful appliqué khayamiya cloth used for ceremonial tents.
The roofed bazaar just south of Bab Zuweila is the last of Cairo's covered market streets. Its craftsmen still hand-stitch appliqué panels prized worldwide.
