Gate · Gamaliya, Islamic Cairo

Bab al-Futuh

The name means 'Gate of Conquests', the triumphal northern entrance through which armies marched into the Fatimid capital.

One of three surviving Fatimid gates, rebuilt in stone by the Armenian vizier Badr al-Jamali. Al-Muizz Street begins here at the top of the walled city.
