Street · Al-Darb al-Ahmar, Islamic Cairo

Bab al-Wazir

The name means 'Gate of the Vizier', after a lost gate said to have stood beside a vizier's residence on the road to the Citadel.

The street is lined with Mamluk mosques and mausolea leading up to Salah El-Din Square. The gate itself no longer stands, but the name marks the route.
