Sherif Street

Named for the statesman remembered as the father of Egypt’s constitution.

Sherif Pasha, several times prime minister in the 1870s and 80s, pressed for constitutional government and earned the title ‘father of the Egyptian constitution.’ The street bearing his name is one of Downtown’s dense commercial spines, lined with banks, jewellers, and the offices that grew up with the modern city.
