Souk al-Attarin

The name means 'Market of the Perfumers', from the attarin who sold spices, incense and aromatic oils here.

The perfumers' trade was among the most prestigious of the medieval markets, dealing in costly imports from the spice routes. Fragrance and spice shops still cluster in this part of the old city.
